Faust is a visual artist living in New York. His work is a response to the perpetually changing image of the city drawing on influences from graffiti and art history. He strives to change the way people look at the streets and challenge the popular perception of graffiti.
This year Faust's work was exhibited in the Le Tag exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris and adorned the facade of White Box Gallery in the Lower East Side. He previously collaborated with the Graffiti Research Lab (artist collective) projecting his tag in the Museum of Modern Art as part of the Design and the Elastic Mind exhibit last year. Faust was recently published in Definition: The Art and Design of Hip Hop by Cey Adams (Harper Collins Publisher, 2008) and Going Postal by Martha Cooper (Mark Batty Publisher, 2009).
Artists, musicians, and DJs will perform and exhibit original work in true Brooklyn block party style, including performances and exhibitions:
- Connection Works Performance and Interactive: The Connection Works Ensemble engages the audience in an interactive session, discovering jazz through call and response, rhythm, melody, form, improvisation, and style. They will then demonstrate these elements as they perform their original work. The group will consist of Michel Gentile (flute), Daniel Kelly (keyboards), and Rob Garcia (drums).
-Artists from the BoCoCa Arts Festival Performance: a theater troupe will perform scenes from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, staging scenes randomly on the street and musicians will perform. The BoCoCa Arts Festival taps into the unique and varied aspects of the Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens and Gowanus communities to support artistic expression and our local businesses, while providing entertainment and inspiration to the community. The Festival will present a collection of outstanding emerging works in the fields of Art, Music, Theater, and Performance Art. Staged in unconventional venues, the performances will reflect the truthful and exciting expression of human aspiration evident throughout our communities.
- Public Portraiture Project - In the tradition of early portrait studios, photographer, Julia Hassett Sutton will present a public "photo store" where people can walk in off the street and have their portraits taken. And just as they did in the early studios, backdrops and props will be used for these portraits. Those who participate will get a 4x6 print. The inspiration for this project comes from and incredible photographer, Seydou Keita who had a photo store in his town in Africa. The aritsts's intention is to further create documentation of the people who live in Brooklyn neighborhoods today.
- Public Garden Site - open space for visitors to stop, relax, picnic, and enjoy the music and art at the Block Party.
WE-ARE-FAMILIA artist collective will present a public project inspired by the Mail Art of artists such as Ray Johnson to take advantage of the postal system as a vehicle for connecting and extending a family of artists. Mail art is art which uses the postal system as a medium. Ray Johnson was a seminal figure of the Pop Art movement. Primarily a collage artist, Johnson was also an early performance and conceptual artist. Once called "New York's most famous unknown artist", he is considered the "Founding Father of Mail Art" and pioneered the incorporation and use of language in the visual arts. Johnson developed mail art as a distinct verbal-visual activity, from his early beginnings in the mid-forties, correspondence as art was incidental and did not warrant separate treatment as a distinct form of art.
The idea is simple; make something, mail that something, add something, and mail it on. However it promises to have boundless reach and extraordinary impact. WE-ARE-FAMILIA will provide the base card with instructions. All Post Art cards will be returned to WE- ARE-FAMILIA in accordance with the guidelines outlined below. Once the Post Art Club pieces are gathered, an exhibit can be held. This exhibit will literally exemplify a uniquely modern approach to art, connecting communities, redefining authorship, encouraging experimentation and collage. While the Post Art Club will literally cross lines, borders, nationalities; it will also function to combine various forms of style, technique, and methodology, while passing through hands of amateurs and professionals alike. This clear, beautiful concept embodies the core identity of WE-ARE-FAMILIA. Literally a tangible object can be traced from artist's hand to artist's hand, thereby creating an extensive, unified, community-based body of work.
WE-ARE-FAMILIA is an independent creative study on the concept of family, founded by New York creative directors/designers Jennifer Garcia and Christian Calabro. 50 artists, designers and musicians have come together to explore the powerful, complex ties which consciously and unconsciously touch all that we experience as humans. Presented in 25 one-of-a kind "keepsake boxes" made from recycled furniture and found materials, WE-ARE-FAMILIA showcases original mementos contributed by its family of artists. our first exhibition was at colette in paris. images are attached. WE-ARE-FAMILIA recently exhibited these works at colette, paris. More work can be seen at upcoming shows at Reed Space, NYC and Open Space, Beacon, NY.

Located in an authentic 1936 subway station, the Transit Museum houses a unique collection of over 19 examples of vintage subway and elevated cars and presents permanent and temporary exhibitions and programs that explore the past and present of regional public transportation. Currently the museum is featuring:
The Route of the Dashing Commuter: Incorporated in 1834, the Long Island Railroad, is the oldest rail road in the United States still operating under its original name. Initially built to be a shortcut to Boston, it has adapted to the ever-changing needs of its customers and survived competition, takeovers, hard times and bankruptcy. Today it is the busiest commuter railroad in the country and is embarking on a massive expansion project known as East Side Access which will bring LIRR trains into Grand Central Terminal. Historic and contemporary photographs, maps, illustrations, and objects on loan and from the museum's collection tell the fascinating story of the railroad and how it contributed to the development of Long Island.
Guest Car: Transit Museum guest cars highlight vintage and current vehicles not normally included in our permanent exhibit. Supplementing the exhibit on the Long Island Rail Road's history, a vintage caboose is on display at the Museum. Steel Cabin Car No. C-60 was built by the International Railway Car Company in 1961 and used by the LIRR until 2003. Preserved and newly restored, the car is on loan from the National Railway Historical Society, Twin Forks Chapter.

Our group is comprised of folks who live and work in Brooklyn - friends and neighbors who volunteer their time and resources toward the cause of eliminating the problem of stray, unaltered animals in our city. Infinite Hope is currently developing a foster care network for pets of people experiencing crisis such as domestic violence, homelessness and setbacks due to the economy. When space and availability of staff permits, Infinite Hope also "rescues" animals from Brooklyn ACC (Animal Care and Adoption Center), a facility overrun with homeless animals.
We are committed to a 100% no-kill philosophy and will not accept animals beyond our capacity to care for them.

This installation is on view from April 30, 2009 through June 30, 2009.
James Coleman and Carlo Maria Ciampoli of Live Architecture Network, a collective of young architects that works between Barcelona, Boulder, and Brooklyn, have designed an installation specifically for an evening of performance with the Movement Research Festival 2009. Constructed of 1,000 feet of elastic and fixed to the gallery walls through digitally fabricated tracks, the installation creates undulating planes for observation and movement. The installation will remain on view at the gallery, following the one evening of performance, through June 30, 2009.
Archeography IV is the fourth and final installation of the Archeography Project series at Superfront, which has presented the combined work of architects and choreographers since October 2008. The investigation presumes that precepts of movement may act authoritatively upon architecture and, conversely, that architecture may operate within a logic of performance.
